If you wish to report an act of cruelty or neglect or if you are concerned for the welfare of an animal, please contact your local state or territory RSPCA. Before you contact the RSPCA, try to gather as much information as possible, including:
The RSPCA has a dedicated and trained force of Inspectors. Whilst it will endeavour to respond to all complaints as quickly as possible please remember that the RSPCA is a non-government, community-based charity and is limited in its resources. RSPCA Inspectors have the power to enforce the prevention of cruelty to animal legislation in the state or territory in which they are based. This legislation varies across Australia. The RSPCA continues to call on state and territory governments to strengthen their prevention of cruelty to animals legislation and to increase penalties for those who are guilty of breaking the law. Whilst some jurisdictions have made improvements in recent times, much more needs to be done to legally protect the welfare of animals in Australia.
