CHOICE backs Paw of Approval

Consumer watchdog CHOICE has given the RSPCA Paw of Approval a big thumbs up in its latest review of food labelling. The recommendation provides a further guarantee to consumers who are looking for higher welfare food but who are also increasingly confused by the myriad of labels in the supermarket.

The RSPCA Paw of Approval can be found on eggs and pork products (and soon chicken meat) that have been produced to the RSPCA's high animal welfare standards. These standards are much higher than those required by law or recommended by the various model codes of practice.

Hens, pigs and meat chickens raised on RSPCA Approved farms have the freedom to express their full range of natural behaviours. They are not confined in cages or sow stalls and RSPCA assessors visit and monitor our farms regularly to ensure our high standards continue to be met.

We know people are already seeking out higher welfare food, it's just not always easy to find, particularly with the lack of consistent and enforceable food labelling in Australia. RSPCA Approved food products are already in 1,100 stores nationally but we'd like to see welfare friendly food on every supermarket shelf throughout the country.
