Jockeys: less is more on Derby Day
More than half of the jockeys confirmed to race in tomorrow's Derby Day have unfortunately made the RSPCA Poor Form Guide, a list of leading jockeys who've recently breached the new whip rules.
Derby Day - headlined by the Mackinnon Stakes - is the last big race before next week's Melbourne Cup.
The RSPCA is appealing to jockeys to keep their whips in check and prove that leaders on the track can be leaders in horse welfare too.
Jockeys are elite athletes - they have the skill to encourage their horses to run, without whipping them.
If you're having a flutter or heading trackside check out our Girls Guide to the Races to see how you can help us get the message out to jockeys that whips are so last season.
