Next time you're out shopping, keep an eye out for these producers approved under the RSPCA's Approved Farming Scheme. By choosing eggs and pork that have been produced humanely you will be helping the RSPCA improve the treatment of hens and pigs in Australia.
Keep an eye on this site to stay updated on new producers that come on board. The RSPCA will be approving chicken meat in early 2010.
Eggs
Hens on RSPCA Approved farms aren't kept in battery cages and they have the freedom to express all their natural behaviours. Importantly, they get to lay their eggs in a nest.
The RSPCA approves Modra Free Range eggs; Coles Barn Laid Eggs; Sunny Queen Barn Laid eggs; Ruradene Free Range eggs; Southern Egg Barn Laid eggs; MMM Farm Barn Laid eggs, Compass Barn Laid eggs, Golden Eggs Barn Laid eggs and Valley Brook Barn Laid eggs.
Pork
Pigs living on RSPCA Approved farms aren't confined in sow stalls and they have the freedom to socialise, explore and root. They don't have their teeth clipped, tails docked and they aren't surgically castrated.
The RSPCA approves all Gooralie Pork, all Otway Pork, Primo Free Range Fresh Pork and Coles Finest Free Range Fresh Pork.
