It’s been two years since Coles stopped selling cage eggs under its own branded lines and Woolworths will phase out ALL cage eggs by 2018. Sadly, the other major Australian retailer, ALDI, has remained silent on this important issue.

Update (25th of May, 2016): ALDI announced its commitment to supplying only cage-free eggs in its stores by no later than 2025. Thousands of you wrote to ALDI in support of hen welfare and it was your voices that inspired this decision. Because of you, Australia is one step closer to freeing all hens from cruel battery cages.

Hens in cages

Think battery cages are a thing of the past? Guess again! 11 million hens are STILL in cages in Australia.

Natural behaviours

Hens in cages can’t flap their wings, stretch, lay their eggs in a nest or dust bathe.

Millions of Australian hens suffer intensely and continuously throughout their lives because they are confined to cages. ALDI has the ability to help stop this suffering by making a commitment to removing cage eggs from its shelves. You can help by urging ALDI to put the chicken before the egg and take animal welfare seriously.
