Laws in Australia

While no animal testing for cosmetics currently takes place in Australia it’s technically not illegal. Neither is the sale of any imported cosmetic products that have, or contain ingredients that have, been tested on animals elsewhere in the world. However, this could soon change.

There has been an encouraging amount of debate on the issue in recent months with a Greens bill tabled and extensive consultation undertaken by the Australian Labor Party (ALP). Last month RSPCA Australia called on you, our supporters, to get involved in the debate and make a submission to the ALP telling them you want legislative change that will prevent the future sale and importation of cosmetics that have been tested on animals. The ALP received more than 15,000 submissions.
