Strategic Sourcing Manager

Strategic Sourcing Manager

Position Title: RSPCA Australia Strategic Sourcing Manager
Reports to: Executive Officer
Location: To be negotiated.
Status: The position is being offered as full-time, however alternate arrangements may be considered.

Australia’s largest and most trusted animal welfare charity is looking for an experienced Strategic Sourcing Manager who will deliver significant savings across the RSPCA federation through a strategic approach in the bulk purchasing of goods and services.

RSPCA Australia, the federal body, is appointing this position on behalf of the eight RSPCA state/territory Societies. Each Society is a separate legal entity and different in size, income and expenditure, number of sites they operate and the breadth of services they offer to the community. The position has been previously filled and that incumbent established several national arrangements which need to be maintained. In addition, there are a number of additional opportunities to be explored. The structure of the RSPCA in Australia means that the Strategic Sourcing Manager must be adept at understanding differing needs and views and influencing outcomes for the betterment of the federation.

Responsibilities of the position:

  1. Engaging key individuals and business units across the RSPCA federation to develop go to market strategies for specific categories, products and services
  2. Clearly identifying and communicating savings opportunities in all areas of spend
  3. Running key analysis on current category conditions to assist in the formulation of strategy and aligning sourcing activities with business requirements
  4. Acting as the key contact for existing national procurement arrangements and managing re-tender processes and/or contract renegotiations at the end of current contracts
  5. Leading efficient end-to-end procurement processes that will quickly realise and sustain identified benefits across specified categories including: market analysis, tender events, evaluation, negotiation and contract implementation
  6. Ensuring procurement relationships do not conflict with the RSPCA’s animal welfare policies
  7. Where possible, identifying opportunities outside of a regular supplier/customer relationship (eg, where lower prices may be available in exchange for sponsorship benefits)
  8. Providing advice and education to internal stakeholders on suitable policies and strategies that can reduce internal usage through better controls and management reporting, as well as suggesting new cost savings initiatives
  9. Establishing systems that will ensure monitoring of supplier performance and trigger cyclical reviews
  10. Continuously evaluating the suitability of all processes for the purposes of continuous improvement

Our ideal candidate:

  1. A highly accomplished procurement professional with strategic and ‘hands on’ approach running end-to-end procurement
  2. A proven ability to influence and gain buy in from internal stakeholders
  3. An understanding of the federation structure of the RSPCA and the importance of collaboration but recognising the need for a final decision to achieve an outcome which benefits all members
  4. Experience working with procurement of services and goods
  5. Superior problem-solving ability, including the ability to think creatively, in identifying and delivering cost saving solutions suitable for the RSPCA
  6. Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to clearly express ideas, concepts and models to a variety of people
  7. Ability to negotiate contract terms that will deliver cost savings and optimum logistics
  8. Strong drive to deliver measurable results
  9. Demonstrated ability to work independently while at the same time keeping internal stakeholders informed of progress

The successful candidate:

  • can potentially be based anywhere in Australia, but ideally on the eastern seaboard and with easy airport access
  • must be prepared to travel as required
