Resources for vets

The RSPCA is committed to supporting veterinary professionals with practical, evidence-based resources that promote the health and welfare of animals in their care.

As part of this commitment, we develop and share tools designed to assist veterinarians in delivering best practice care and educating clients to optimise the wellbeing of animals in their care.

Veterinary guidelines for anaesthesia and pain management in cats undergoing desexing

The RSPCA commissioned the development of the Guidelines for private practice veterinarians on anaesthesia and pain management in cats undergoing desexing as a current evidence-based resource to support private practice veterinarians in delivering safe and effective anaesthesia and pain management for cats; in particular, prepubertal and unsocialised cats.

The guidelines were drafted by Dr Gabrielle Musk (a specialist in veterinary anaesthesia and analgesia) and reviewed by other specialists in veterinary anaesthesia and analgesia, veterinarians in practices with a high feline case load, and members of the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists.

The guidelines have been reviewed and endorsed by the Veterinary Anaesthesia and Analgesia Chapter of the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists.

The RSPCA will be hosting a free live webinar and Q&A on the guidelines. Register your interest here.
