RSPCA Animal Welfare Seminar

25 November 2016

Dogs have a special place in the hearts, minds and lives of so many people. They give us pleasure, help us to exercise, socialise and a reason to get up in the morning! They fulfil different roles in different contexts including being a companion, providing security, being a working dog and being used for racing and breeding. But is this all one sided? Do dogs gain from this relationship as much as humans do, or are we letting down our best friend? They rely on us to provide food, water, comfort, health care and companionship. But do they receive all of this in every situation?

Sadly, the answer is no. The 2016 RSPCA Animal Welfare Seminar investigated the treatment of dogs in racing, breeding, training and indigenous communities to identify the key welfare issues and discuss options to resolve these.

RSPCA Australia gratefully acknowledges the financial support for the 2016 Animal Welfare Seminar from the Commonwealth Government through a grant-in-aid administered by the Department of Finance.
