About Us

The RSPCA is an independent, community-based charity providing animal care and protection services across Australia. As the federation’s national body, RSPCA Australia leads in animal welfare science and policy, and operates the RSPCA Approved Farming Scheme—Australia’s leading independent certification program focused on farm animal welfare.

Since 1996, the Scheme has improved conditions for billions of farm animals including layer hens, pigs, meat chickens, turkeys, and farmed Atlantic salmon. Learn more about our impact here.

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and qualified external member to join the Certification Committee of the RSPCA Approved Farming Scheme. This voluntary position plays a vital role in overseeing the governance and operations of the Certification Body and reviewing appeals related to certification decisions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Participate in regular and ad hoc videoconference meetings (typically 30–90 minutes, up to 12 per year).
  • Review reports and documentation prior to meetings.
  • Contribute to decisions on complex certification matters, including exemptions, breaches, and appeals.
  • Attend induction sessions to understand Scheme operations.

Skills & Experience

  • Demonstrated experience in accreditation and certification.
  • Understanding of the RSPCA Approved Farming Scheme or willingness to learn.
  • Familiarity with international best practice and ISO/IEC 17065 standards is desirable.
