Whether you’re a sweet tooth, a budding chef or simply passionate about animal welfare – there are plenty of excuses to support the RSPCA’s next fundraising event!

RSPCA (SA) Media and Campaigns Manager Jennifer Salter said supporters across Australia will be firing up their ovens to celebrate Cupcake Day on Monday, August 20.

“Batches of fresh cupcakes will be taken to workplaces, schools and social gatherings where they will be exchanged for donations to the RSPCA,” she said.

“Last year more than 500 South Australians mixed, baked and decorated to raise over $70,000 for the RSPCA.

“With funds supporting animals in need, there has never been a more satisfying reason to get involved.”

It’s not just people who will be tucking in; this year local dog bakery ‘Pupcakes” will be whipping up hundreds of delicious treats.

The dog-friendly delicacies will be sold at the RSPCA’s Lonsdale shelter this Saturday, August 18, as part of a special event to celebrate Cupcake Day.

There will be a sausage sizzle and tours of the RSPCA’s facilities from 10am til 4pm.

“This is a fun day out for the whole family. You can enjoy a scrumptious lunch and visit our shelter animals,” Ms Salter said.

“It’s a reminder of why events like this are held in the first place. And who knows – you might leave with the sweetest treat of all – a new furry friend!”

While Cupcake Day is officially held on Monday, August 20, participants have until September 24, 2012 to host a cupcake party, donate and fundraise online.
