About the Role

The Scientific Communications Officer plays a key role in translating animal welfare science into engaging and accessible communications. This role supports the development of evidence-based content for a range of audiences, including government, industry, media, and the public, and works closely with internal teams to ensure scientific integrity and impact.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver evidence-based communications that translate animal welfare science into accessible formats.
  • Support the creation of content for reports, submissions, media releases, website, social media, and educational materials.
  • Work closely with subject matter experts to ensure scientific accuracy and relevance.
  • Assist in the preparation of briefing documents and policy submissions.
  • Contribute to the development of communication strategies that support RSPCA’s advocacy and education goals.
  • Monitor emerging animal welfare science and translate findings into practical insights.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to ensure consistency and alignment with RSPCA values and messaging.
  • Support the Marketing Coordinator and other team members with scientific input and review.

About You

We’re looking for someone who has:

  • A tertiary qualification in science, communications, journalism, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate complex scientific information into engaging content.
  • Experience in writing for diverse audiences, including government, media, and the public.
  • Strong research and analytical skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Alignment with RSPCA values and mission
