About the Role

The Scientific Communications Officer plays a key role in translating animal welfare science into engaging and accessible communications. This role supports the development of evidence-based content for a range of audiences, including government, industry, media, and the public, and works closely with internal teams to ensure scientific integrity and impact.

Key Responsibilities

Develop and deliver evidence-based communications that translate animal welfare science into accessible formats.
Support the creation of content for reports, submissions, media releases, website, social media, and educational materials.
Work closely with subject matter experts to ensure scientific accuracy and relevance.
Assist in the preparation of briefing documents and policy submissions.
Contribute to the development of communication strategies that support RSPCA’s advocacy and education goals.
Monitor emerging animal welfare science and translate findings into practical insights.
Collaborate with internal teams to ensure consistency and alignment with RSPCA values and messaging.
Support the Marketing Coordinator and other team members with scientific input and review.

About You

We’re looking for someone who has:

A tertiary qualification in science, communications, journalism, or a related field.
Demonstrated ability to translate complex scientific information into engaging content.
Experience in writing for diverse audiences, including government, media, and the public.
Strong research and analytical skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work collaboratively and manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
