National Pet Adoption Month runs throughout March, and in 2026 there are more reasons than ever to adopt a cat or dog, with the RSPCA’s official nutritional partner, Royal Canin, donating $100 for every cat or dog adopted from an RSPCA location. By adopting a new companion animal, Australians will also be helping improve the lives of countless others.

“With hundreds of cats and dogs currently available for adoption around the country, March is looking like a wonderful time to make a new friend, improve animal welfare outcomes nationally, and help animals across the country move into the safe and loving home they deserve,” said RSPCA Australia CEO Richard Mussell.

“There are many reasons to adopt a pet, and in March that number climbs to 100 thanks to our partnership with Royal Canin.

“The joy that comes from adopting an animal is unrivalled and we have so many unique animals in our care waiting to be discovered and taken home,” said Mussell.

Each year Royal Canin provides 288 tonnes of high-quality pet food to nourish the animals in RSPCA shelters while they await adoption. All adopted cats & dogs go home already desexed, vaccinated, microchipped, Bravecto flea & tick protected and with a bag of Royal Canin dry food, and in March Royal Canin is taking this one step further, also donating $100 to the RSPCA up to the value of $200,000.

Managing Director of Royal Canin ANZ, Jeremy Sassoon said the company was proud to donate $100 for every adoption in March, on top of the thousands of cats and dogs already being fed science-backed nutrition.

“Every adoption is a story of hope. By supporting RSPCA, Royal Canin is helping to turn these stories into reality, ensuring adopted pets go home not only with a loving family, but also with the nutrition they need to thrive,” he said.

“There are hundreds of reasons to consider adopting a new pet. One of my top reasons is the daily adventures and fun our dog brings into our home. If you have been thinking about bringing a new pet into your lives, now is a great time,” said Mr Sassoon.

Each year the RSPCA cares for more than 77,000 animals through its shelters, with almost 27,000 reaching their forever homes.
